The Matabeleland South Volleyball Association has announced the scheduled dates for its upcoming events—the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Opening Tournament. The AGM is set to take place on the 24th of February in Gwanda. As per the MSVA Constitution, the AGM traditionally occurs either in the last month of the current season, typically November, or alternatively, in the first month of the new season, which is February. In adherence to the constitution, a preliminary agenda has been circulated three weeks prior to the specified date, this will be followed by the circulation of the final agenda a week before the meeting. The discussions in the forthcoming AGM are expected to cover various topics, including the eagerly awaited President’s report and plans for the upcoming 2024 season.

Simultaneously, the Opening Tournament is scheduled for the 9th of March and will be hosted by GSU Cavaliers at the Gwanda State University campus. This tournament, which rotates hosts annually, promises spirited competition from all teams. The reigning champions from the 2023 edition, Beitbridge Eagles, anticipate a tough challenge from perennial contenders within the province, including GSU Cavaliers and Colleen Bawn, among others. Notably, Matabeleland South teams may encounter formidable opposition from neighbouring provinces, as clubs from these regions have also been invited. Last year’s mid-season tournament at Mtshabezi High School saw Chimoio from the neighbouring Bulawayo Volleyball Association dominate in both the men and women categories, emphasizing the competitive nature of clubs beyond Matabeleland South province. Additionally, in the recent end-of-season tournament in Beitbridge, More Fire from the neighbouring Masvingo Volleyball Association emerged as a formidable force, easily dispatching teams like Jessie Mine and hosts Beitbridge Eagles to secure victory in a final that was contested by clubs from outside the province. The upcoming events promise an exciting and challenging volleyball season for all participants.
