The Matabeleland South Volleyball Association (MSVA) is gearing up to host a mega volleyball tournament in Singwango, situated in Silalatshani, Insiza district. This eagerly anticipated event marks the beginning of the traditional season and is aptly named “yasuka yahlala.”

A total of seven men’s teams are poised to take part in the upcoming tournament. Among them are the Lycans and NUST Vikings, specially invited from the neighboring Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA). Joining them are local teams including Jessie Mine, GHS Spartans, Beitbridge Eagles, Singwango, and GSU Cavaliers, all representing Matabeleland South province. On the women’s side, four teams have registered, featuring a showdown between the Lycans from BVA and local MSVA teams such as Angels, Singwango, and Beitbridge Eagles. The last tournament of such scale was held in March 2014 at Mtshabezi, boasting participation from six men’s and three women’s teams. Izihlobo emerged victorious, defeating Jessie Mine in the final match. In an interview with a local newspaper, Ilanga, MSVA president Mr. Mzi Gumbo expressed confidence in the tournament’s success and its potential to elevate the standards of volleyball participation in the province.
