Matabeleland South looks set to hosting a breakthrough tournament in women’s volleyball

The Matabeleland South Volleyball Association (MSVA) is preparing to organize what could potentially become one of the most significant women’s tournaments in the country. Scheduled for April 20th, the upcoming Independence tournament may showcase eight women’s teams and six men’s teams.

Historically, the MSVA has faced criticism for its lack of focus on women’s volleyball development. For instance, in the 2023 season, the opening tournament featured only three teams, with two representing the Bulawayo Volleyball Association, and there was no women’s league that year. Expected attendees for the Independence tournament include Beitbridge Eagles, Chimoio, GSU Cavaliers, Gwanda Giants, Gwanda Stalions, Lycans, and ZRP Gwanda for the women’s category. Meanwhile, six men’s teams are anticipated to participate, including Beitbridge Eagles, Chimoio, GSU Cavaliers, Lycans, GHS Spartans, and ZRP Gwanda. This Independence tournament marks the second event hosted by the MSVA in the 2024 season.

Following its conclusion, the 2024 MSVA League will commence, featuring six men’s and four women’s teams in their respective divisions. MSVA Media Team
