Embakwe High School ended Gwanda High’s dominance by clinching the 2024 Matabeleland South Schools Invitational Volleyball Tournament, also known as the Lefatshe Tournament after its sponsors, Lefatshe Geoinformatics. The thrilling two-day event, held at Mzingwane High School and Plumtree, showcased the region’s top volleyball talent.
The boys’ competition, held on July 27 at Mzingwane High School, saw Embakwe High triumph. Plumtree High secured the runner-up position, with hosts Mzingwane High finishing third.

The girls’ final, initially postponed due to concerns about daylight, took place on July 31 at Plumtree. The highly anticipated match drew large crowds from Bulilima and Mangwe districts, home to the participating schools, Usher and Plumtree. Plumtree emerged victorious, defeating Usher 2-0 and lifting the Lefatshe trophy. This victory marked the end of defending champions Singwango’s reign, as they were eliminated in the group stages. Newcomers Lubuze High surprised many by finishing fourth after a narrow loss to Gwanda High in the 3rd/4th playoff match.
